Wood Blinds or Faux Wood Blinds. What should I buy?

Two very popular window treatments that we sell at Made in The Shade Blinds of Pittsburgh are Wood Blinds and Faux Wood Blinds.  But what is the difference?

The obvious answer is that Wood Blinds are made of wood while Faux Wood Blinds are made out of PVC.  Additionally, Wood Blinds are more expensive than Faux Wood Blinds.

So is one better than the other?

It depends.  If looks are your only consideration, then Wood Blinds are for you.  These are made of 100% North American hardwood.  They are light weight while being structurally stable, their colors remain consistent as does their natural grain.  And, as an upgrade, we offer Wood Blinds in premier North American Hardwoods – Maple, Walnut, and Cherry.

A lighter product also means that less ladders (the strings that support each individual slat) are used.  This means less obstruction to your view outside and a neater look.

But Faux Wood Blinds also have advantages.  Because they are made of PVC they resist warping, chipping and fading.  We recommend using Faux Wood Blinds in areas that are moisture or humidity prone like bathrooms, laundry rooms, or basements. They do look very nice and are available in just about every paint and stain color as Wood Blinds.

Many of our customers choose Wood Blinds in areas where visitors will see them such as the living room, dining room, and kitchen because of the exceptional richness and beauty they convey.  This same customer may then opt for Faux Wood Blinds in bedrooms because they are not as visible.

But whatever you choose you will certainly love the allure of either of these products. At Made in The Shade Blinds of Pittsburgh both Wood Blinds and Faux Wood Blinds are always installed with your choice of a Valance. They are also available with several control options such as corded, cordless, or motorized.  They are available in several slat sizes from 1 inch up to 2 ½ inches.  There is a NoHoles option for maximum privacy and a cloth tape option that covers the ladders for a more decorative appearance.
